KAWANA FAMILY BAND ........ My mother (Isabel Whatarau Cowan) and father (Peter Cowan) were professional  entertainers they came to Australia with Porgy & Bess in the late 60s,my mum sung with Inia  Tewiata in the show she also sung with Howard Morrison in the Clive.Trio,also  singing on numerous albums & maori tradional songs,she taught me so much about music including how to back singers if I did too many drum rolls while she was singing I'd get a wack,so I learnt very quickly how not to play too much,we formed a family

Polynesian Show name The Kawana Show which we perfomed through out the East doing the Hilton Hotel circuit my 3 sisters my Uncle & Aunty my cousins and my Mum & Dad,I remember when we were at Kuala Lumpur Hilton performing in the Paddock Lounge we met Mohammad Ali round about the same time he fought Joe Bugner,he enjoyed the show that much when everybody wanted an encore he stood up & said "I SAID I WANT MORE" after that he invited us for breakfast and dinner, then he invited us to his movie room to wathch Dracula next thing he wanted to make one of the girls in our show his third wife,my Mum said no that was the end of that
